Intro Paragraph to Essay: The Second Coming vs. Ulysses

The anarchy and aging of civilization portrays the use of time and its impact on old establishment. In both The Second Coming and Ulysses, William Butler Yeats and Alfred Lord Tennyson portray the use of aging and decaying in time to explain how these detrimental topics destroy the old establishment that is discussed in both of these poems. Lord Tennyson exemplifies the old established idle king, Odysseus, and how time has affected this aged king in which he contemplates his existence into the later periods of his life, and he also feels nostalgic about his experience in the Trojan War. William Butler Yeats also portrays the affect of time on an establishment or institution in which he describes the slow decaying and aging of a civilization and how this institution has become an anarchy. Yeats and Tennyson personify time in their poems and portray its detrimental affect on institutions created for the sense of governance and order, and ironically decaying is apparent in both institutions.
